What’s in my Refrigerator

I’m just going to assume that since you’re reading a healthy living blog that you might want to know what is in my refrigerator. This will be a recurring three-part post, also focusing on my freezer and pantry. Sounds exciting, huh? I thought I might want to know what other people snack on or eat regularly, and there’s no better time to try new healthy foods than the new year! So here is a look inside my refrigerator…

Foods I am never without in my refrigerator:

And when I say never, I mean I really restock all of these items every week if they are out or low.

  • Oikos and Chobani Vanilla yogurt, 6 oz cups–I eat one about 4-5 days/week for breakfast with cereal
  • Strawberries–with breakfast, lunch or snack
  • Bananas–to freeze, bake with, for breakfast, lunch or snack
  • Apples–to cook with or for lunch or snack
  • Borden Fat Free Cottage Cheese–snack
  • One dozen eggs–hard boiled, scrambled, or for baking

  • Almond milk-for cereal or oatmeal or baking
  • Some Pulp Orange Juice (Jeffrey)
  • 2% milk (Jeffrey)
  • Hummus (Central Market or Athenos)–lunch
  • Bottled water (don’t hate me)
  • Lettuce (butter or romaine and spinach), tomatoes, carrots
  • Babybel cheese, yellow and parm cheese grated, Tofu block
  • Deli turkey (for Lily, don’t ask)

Condiments: Pickles, assorted jams, assorted Asian sauces, BBQ sauce, assorted mustards

Other foods that sometimes appear:

  • Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries.
  • Red bell pepper, green beans, snap peas (whatever vegetable we’re cooking up that week)
  • Leftovers in tupperware
  • tub of Oikos Plain yogurt (sometimes it’s too tart, sometimes I want it)

What foods can you never be without?

Whoa! I can’t believe your refrigerate your bananas! Doesn’t that make them go black really fast?! I have never seen that before. :) Anyway, your fridge looks great. Nice and healthy.

does your fruit/veggie intake vary by the season? to eat more locally

    • Marci says:

      Hi Amaranta,
It does vary each time I go to the grocery. I try to pick seasonal foods because they are fresher, better quality, and usually cheaper than out of season ones too. Hope you’re doing well!

Have you tried Houston’s farmer’s markets? Frozen berries are a good alternative to keep buying local, I remember the FM used to sell them yr round. Texas doesn’t do great with all fruits but melons, peaches and citrus can be divine. I used to go to the Eastside FM but there are so many now!
