Weekend

Happy MLK Monday! We are both off from work today, so it’s another weekend day for us. This weekend, it was all about sports! So unusual for me. On Saturday, I spectated the Olympic Trials for the Marathon. It has been a big deal in Houston for over a year when we were awarded the race. Last year, I covered the runners for a media job when they came to town for a trial run.

This year, I went out to watch the men and women do the actual race. Top three finishers in men and women go on to London this summer to represent the USA.

The weather was perfect this weekend for racing! Below are the men’s front runners who happened to be the three winners. Very cool to watch! They all ran 26.2 miles in under 2:10.

Then on Sunday, it was the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half Marathon. We ended up spectating allll over the course as we tried to run some errands. We started at Mile 7.5ish and saw a few familiar faces, then we went to our gym around Mile 19.5 and I watched the front runners come through. Walking on the treadmill after watching the racers on a pretty day sounded really boring, so spectating was my exercise! Oh well. Then we drove around trying to get home and saw lots and lots of miles and people. Kudos to all the runners! Very fun to watch.

After that, we cheered on the Houston Texans in the 2nd round playoff game. We had friends over, and I cooked a few things for lunch and snacks. This below is a Cooking Light Peanut Butter and Chocolate Fudge recipe. Will be posted this week. Really tasty and easy, no bake.

And Lily wasn’t left out of the fun. She had a friend come over to play! They wore each other out.

Lastly, we made homemade pizza to watch the Golden Globes. I used this recipe and method that we did last year on Oscar Night. The dough is delicious and soft and chewy with a slight taste of honey. However, we goofed on not spraying cooking spray on the baking rack. Do that! It was a little rough pulling it up.

Otherwise, it’s the only homemade crust recipe I’d use! Delish. If you have never made homemade pizza dough, I recommend you make it on a Sunday.
